Apple Planning To Launch White iPhone 4 On February 27th?

MacRumors is reporting that they’ve received a screenshot, which their source claims is from a Best Buy inventory database, which provides some interesting information.

As you can see from the screenshot (after the break), Best Buy’s inventory database has entries for 16 GB and 32 GB white iPhone 4 models, which has in-stock dates of February 27th.

MacRumors reports:

We’ve received information today from a source sharing the below screenshot claimed to be from a Best Buy inventory database showing both 16 GB and 32 GB white iPhone 4 models listed with expected in-stock dates of February 27th. The SKU and model numbers associated with the entries are identical to those previously used by Best Buy when it was taking pre-orders for the white iPhone 4 prior to last summer’s launch, pre-orders that were canceled when Apple delayed availability of the white versions.

Meanwhile, Engadget is also reporting that their trusted source has sent them a screenshot from Vodafone Germany’s inventory system, which has entries for 16 GB and 32 GB white iPhone 4 models. Their source expects the white iPhone to be launched soon.

Just to recap, when Apple launched iPhone 4 last year, we were told that it would be arriving in two color options – Black and White. While the black iPhone has been launched and is now fairly common, there is no sign of the white iPhone, which was supposed to be here by the second half of July initially.

Apple later announced that the availability of the iPhone 4 would be delayed to “later this year” (i.e. 2010). Apple delayed the release of the white iPhone 4 once again until spring 2011.

We have heard several speculations for the delay. Some industry observers had indicated potential quality control issues arising due to the white coloring on the front glass panel of iPhone 4 – while some others observed that the “Antennagate” issue that plagued the iPhone 4 was the reason for the delay.

It was also speculated that the reason for the delay was due to the back light leaking out through the edges of the glass to the back casing of the device.

According to an insider who was spotted with the white iPhone 4, the shade of white on the home button of the phone isn’t matching with that of the rest of the front panel. Apparently Apple’s suppliers haven’t been able to resolve the issue, which has resulted in the delay.

We’ve also heard rumors that the white iPhone 4 in fact will be eventually cancelled.

When we last checked, our readers who were waiting for the white iPhone 4 had given up and ended up buying the black iPhone 4 so we wonder if anyone is still interested in buying a white iPhone. Anyone out there still waiting for it?
