Apple Releases Apple TV Software Update 4.3; Adds Ability To Purchase TV Shows, Re-download Previously Purchased TV Shows, Support For Vimeo

Apple has released Apple TV software update 4.3 for the second generation Apple TV.

According to the support document, the new Apple TV software update adds the ability to purchase TV shows on Apple TV 2G, re-download previously purchased TV show content and also support for video service Vimeo.

Here are the details of the new features introduced in Apple TV software update 4.3 for Apple TV 2G:

TV show purchases: Purchase TV shows on Apple TV. Shows purchased on Apple TV can be re-downloaded on other iOS devices. Shows purchased on other iOS devices or with iTunes automatically show up as available to play on Apple TV.

Vimeo: Browse and watch millions of user-uploaded videos found on the Vimeo service, for free.

Apple had added the ability to re-download previously purchased music on other iOS devices just after it had unveiled iCloud at the WWDC 2011 Keynote address.

With the latest update, you can also re-download previously purchased TV shows. In addition, users can also re-download TV shows via iCloud service through the iTunes desktop software, or iTunes on iOS devices.

Interestingly, with the latest Apple TV Software update, you can also purchase TV shows on Apple TV 2G instead of being able to only rent them, but not sure how useful it will be with the limited storage available in the second generation Apple TV.

As always, let us know how it goes and what you think of the new features in the comments.
