MacRumors now reports that a purported iPhone 5 screen protector suggests an elongated home button, similar to the one seen in the purported iPhone 5 case designs.
As you can see from the photo below, the screen protector also suggests that iPhone 5 will be bigger than iPhone 4.
While we’ve seen a number of purported iPhone 5 case designs in the past, none had shown the front of the device. The elongated home button area design, however, was shown in leaked design documents. The design documents only show areas that need to be exposed or open to the user, so it doesn’t mean the physical home button will necessarily adopt the exact shape.
So far we’ve heard conflicting reports about next generation iPhone’s form factor. According to some reports, next generation iPhone will be completely redesigned and will look more like iPod Touch 4G rather than iPhone 4. While, some reports claim that fifth generation iPhone will come with improved specifications such as faster processor, 8-megapixel camera etc. just like iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, but won’t feature an all-new design and will look like iPhone 4.
In fact, according to some reports, the iPhone model that will look like iPhone 4 will be the cheaper 8GB entry-level iPhone model that will be called iPhone 4S, which will be introduced along with the redesigned iPhone 5.
It remains to be seen if an elongated button means a home button that supports multitouch gestures, which a iPod touch 5G photo had suggested few months back.
Apple is widely expected that Apple will unveil iPhone 5 in the next few weeks and release it in the first half of October. We hope that it is sooner rather than later so that these rumors can end once and for all.
We forgot to mention that the hole for the front facing camera has been included in the elongated hole for the speaker, in case you’re wondering about the missing hole for the front facing camera. Thanks everyone for pointing it out.
