Report Claims iOS 5.1 Golden Master Has Passed QA; Release Imminent

ChronicWire reports that according to their “very solid source” Golden Master build of iOS 5.1 has passed quality assurance phase, suggesting that it is ready to be released.

The Golden Master version is the shipping version of the iOS software update that developers must use to submit their iOS apps that are compatible with iOS 5.1.

Chronic Wire reiterates that Apple has added support for Japanese language for Siri in iOS 5.1 and it will also have an easier method to access the Camera app from iPhone’s lock screen.

Chronic writes:

The build number of iOS 5.1 Gold Master is 9B176 according to a very solid source, although three different partners who are testing the Gold Master claim to have slightly (by single digits) higher builds numbers on their copies, I’m assuming that’s because right now it’d make sense for those people to be testing what will soon be released as 5.1.1, so I’ve disregarded the claims.

Apple’s iPad 3 that will be unveiled at the media event tomorrow is expected to come pre-installed with iOS 5.1. We also expect Apple to preview the major new features of iOS 5.1 at tomorrow’s event and announce the release date, which has been rumored to be released on or around March 9th.

Update:

If you’ve jailbroken your iOS device then it’s a good idea to take backups of SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella or iFaith and follow the golden rule of jailbreaking – don’t upgrade until jailbreak tools for the new iOS software update are available.
