iPad 3 to Have 1GB RAM, Double The RAM of iPad 2?

Hot on the heels of reporting that iOS 5.1 Golden Master has passed quality assurance phase, Chronic Wire is now reporting that the debug log that BGR had posted from an iPad 3 development unit seems to suggest that it will come with 1GB RAM.

Chronic Wire explains:

vm_page_bootstrap: 244276 free pages and 8396 wired pages

So, just do some simple math:

244,276 (pages) x 4,096 bytes (size of a page) = 1,000,554,496 bytes = 1GB (rounded)

That would be twice the RAM of iPad 2, which has 512MB RAM. The Verge had also reported earlier today that iPad 3 will come with more RAM.

We will have to wait for iPad 3 to be disassembled to confirm this as Apple typically doesn’t reveal such details.

In addition to double the RAM, recent rumors indicate that iPad 3 will be powered by a dual-core A5, Retina Display, 1GB RAM and support for 4G LTE networks.

We’ll be live blogging the event so don’t forget to join us at 10am PT or 1pm ET or 6pm GMT tomorrow. Until then you can check out what you can expect from Apple’s iPad 3 and Apple’s media event.
