Apple Reportedly Ordering Carbon Fiber Parts For Mystery Product

Japanese site – Macotokara reports that according to their sources, Apple and Foxconn are ordering parts for a mystery product from a Japanese company with expertise in carbon fiber materials.

Macotakara reports:

According to my source, some engineer of Apple and Foxconn Technology came on Japanese company, which has carbon production in mid-March, and they requested to develop some sample.

I don’t have information which is ordered by Apple, source told the number of parts is too large to be called “sample”.

Macotakara is also not sure the unknown parts are for which product.

Last year, John Gruber of Daring Fireball, who has a good track record when it comes to Apple related rumors had indicated that there was a possibility of iPad 2 getting a lightweight high-strength carbon fiber body instead of aluminum.

There have also been rumors of Apple using a new material similar to carbon fiber instead of aluminum in the iPad to make it tougher and at the same time reduce its weight.

We’ll let you know as soon as we get more details.
