Apple rumors are a dime a dozen and they can come from all four corners of the planet, but when Reuters, Bloomberg, or The Wall Street Journal publish an Apple rumor, there’s a 99% chance that it’s true. So with that, here’s the latest on the iPad mini from the WSJ:
Apple’s suppliers are gearing up for mass production of a new iPad mini in the fourth quarter that will likely feature a high-resolution screen from Samsung.
Now here is where I have to apologize, because my headline says this retina tablet will be out in Q4. That’s just an assumption on my part, because mass production typically means immediate release. We all know Apple isn’t the type of company that likes to keep inventory sitting in a warehouse.
Some people say that the retina iPad mini will be a Q1 2014 product, but that contradicts what Tim Cook recently said on Apple’s recent financial earnings call. He specifically said “we’re going to have a very busy fall“, which again, to me means Q4 launch.
Also, I’d like to point out that a retina iPad mini, meaning a 7.9 inch iPad with the same resolution as the 9.7 inch iPad, would have practically the same pixel per inch rating as the 2013 Nexus 7.
