Pebble today announced its new Pebble Steel smartwatch that has a stainless steel body, as opposed to the plastic body of the original model.
The Pebble Steel is intended to capture the “premium” market, with two finishes: Brushed Stainless and Black Matte. The watch comes with a matching metal band as well as a black leather strap. It is covered by Corning’s Gorilla Glass lens, which has an oleophobic, anti-fingerprint coating. The previous model used a plastic cover to protect the screen.
The Steel’s software, battery life, water proof properties all remain the same as the original Pebble watch, but its “premium” finish will cost you a $100 extra. The Pebble Steel costs $249, and starts shipping on January 28th. You can place your order through Pebble’s site right away, with the company offering free worldwide shipping for early orders.

Pebble also announced that it’ll be launching the Pebble appstore with categories: Daily, Remotes, Games, Notifications, Tools & Utilities, Fitness, and Watchfaces. The appstore will be added to the current Pebble iOS and Android app by the end of this month.
