Apple didn’t announce any hardware at the WWDC 2014 event, but it’s clear that the Cupertino giant is cooking up the heavily rumored iWatch behind the scenes. A new report from Japan’s Nikkei now claims that the smartwatch will feature a curved OLED display in addition to iOS 8. The report further states that the smartwatch will be released in October.
In addition to packing a curved OLED display, the iWatch is also expected to feature a wide range of sensors to track user’s sleep patterns, calorie intake, heart rate etc.
Apple has shown off the Health app with iOS 8 which will possibly communicate with the iWatch and store data across iOS devices. The company is expected to launch two separate versions of the iWatch – one in a 1.3 inch configuration and the other with a 1.5 or 1.7 inch display. It’s not clear whether both variants of the smartwatch will feature the curved OLED display.
Recent rumors have also indicated that the iWatch will sport a round face like a traditional watch.
This is something which Samsung did as well by launching two variants of its Gear 2 smartwatch along with a standalone fitness smartwatch called the Gear Fit. We’ll hope to learn more about the Apple iWatch in the coming days as we inch closer to the unveiling of the new iPhone and this companion accessory.[via Nikkei]
