iOS 8 Jailbreak: Status Update

It has been just over two days since Apple seeded iOS 8 beta to developers, so I’m quite sure many of you’re wondering if iOS 8 can be jailbroken.

Security researcher and hacker Stefan Essar aka i0n1c who has successfully jailbroken iOS 7.1.1 brings some good news. He has tweeted that Apple hasn’t patched any of the exploits used to jailbreak iOS 7.1.1:

He also goes on to say that he plans to fix the code to make his jailbreak compatible with iOS 8 beta:

Few days back, i0n1c had published a video to show his untethered jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 called Cyberelevat0r in action. It remains to be seen if i0n1c will be able to successfully jailbreak iOS 8 beta after making the code changes.

It is still early days to get excited as Apple could patch the exploits before iOS 8 is released to the public later this fall. It is also important to note here that hackers don’t typically release jailbreak for beta versions as it would help Apple discover the vulnerabilities used in the jailbreak, and patch them.

It remains to be seen if this revelation has any impact on the release of the eagerly awaited jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1.
