Snapchat, the ephemeral messaging app, is so popular with teenagers that Facebook is reportedly taking a third shot at building a Snapchat clone. Several Instagram users have seen an ad for an unreleased app called Bolt in the Instagram app.
The ad describes Bolt as “One tap photo messaging” with an emoji sequence that you can see in the screenshot. The ad was visible in the Instagram Android app, but tapping on the free button takes users to a dead Google Play Store link.
If Bolt is indeed a Snapchat clone, it would be Facebook’s third such product. The company initially launched Facebook Poke, and killed it after it didn’t take off, and the second app called Slingshot isn’t very popular either.
TechCrunch adds that the ad also suggests that Instagram is testing app-install ads that have proved to be quite popular on Facebook and Twitter.
