PayPal updates iOS app to version 5.5, now lets users add loyalty cards, plus more

iOS PayPal app

Overtaking an entire market takes time, and PayPal has been at it for quite some time, but they are obviously not slowing down anytime soon. The company has just released a new version of their iOS-based app, and with it, a new way to pay for your favorite things.

PayPal’s march towards the domination of mobile payments continues with the company’s newest update to their iOS app, bringing the version up to 5.5. With it, a big new way to pay for things on your mobile device: loyalty cards. PayPal will now let you add your favorite loyalty cards right into the application. You’ll be able to pull them up when you need to, and store employees will be able to scan the necessary information right from your device. Here’s how PayPal puts it:

Link all of your favorite loyalty cards to PayPal. Carry virtual versions on your mobile. Your wallet deserves the break

But, more than that, PayPal has made it faster than ever before to sign you into your account while you’re on your device. Which makes sense, considering if you want to use your phone to pay for something, you don’t want have to wait an inordinate amount of time to get to the card you’re looking for. That would certainly defeat the purpose.

Plus, as usual, PayPal has squashed the bugs they’ve been able to find (and the ones they’ve been notified about). However, they did take something away, too: You’ll no longer be able to scan a check to deposit money into your PayPal account. They do point out that you’ll be able to add money in there directly with your bank account, though.

Do you use the PayPal iOS app? What do you think of it?
