Peter Molyneux has officially released his new game, Godus, into the wild as a free download, now letting anyone with a compatible iOS device act out their fantasies as a God.
The title, which Molyneux developed with his new game studio, 22cans, was available as a limited beta for some iOS users since the end of 2013. It’s been in development since 2012, after raising the funds on Kickstarter, and the idea behind the game is simple: play God to a bunch of digital inhabitants to the world stuck in your mobile device.
The description of the game says as much:
“YOU are about to PLAY GOD. Rule over a living, breathing world. It is as SIMPLE to play with as it is AWE-INSPIRING to behold. Feel truly powerful in the most delightful, charming and tactile world you have ever held in your hands.“
In Godus, and in your new role as the overseer of the land and everything on it, you’ll be able to sculpt what you see, however you see fit. The world is fully simulated, so you’ll be able to watch as the people grow, learn and interact with the world. As usual, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies, though, for as much growth you can nurture, you’re also perfectly capable of burning it all down with a well placed meteor or great fire.
Molyneux is one of the most well known game developers out there, with titles like the Fable series under his belt, along with Black & White, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper and more. He left Microsoft Studios not too long ago to start 22cans, and Godus is the fruit of that hard work.
While the title is a free download, there are in-app purchases within the title, including “240 gems” for $12.99, so keep that in mind. You can check out the full Godus trailer down below, as well as a link to the title below that.
