Apple unveiled the 8th generation iPhones at the special event on September 9th alongside Apple Watch and NFC based payment service, Apple Pay.
Apple also announced at the event that the new iPhones will go on sale on September 19, and customers can pre-order both models beginning September 12.
Apple is yet to announce the time when the pre-orders will start, but we expect it to start taking pre-orders from 12:01 PT just like previous years. U.S. Carriers like AT&T, Verizon and Sprint have already announced that they’ll start taking pre-orders from 12:01 PT tomorrow. Last year, iPhone 5s was not available for pre-order, only the iPhone 5c was available.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are available for pre-order in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK. In Hong Kong, Apple allows customers to preorder iPhones using a unique reservation system, which starts couple of days before the launch. For example, last year reservations for both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c started on September 17 for pickup on September 20th. In Singapore, the pre-orders didn’t start at 3:01 pm local time (12:01 PT) last year, instead it started at 8:00 pm local time. However, our Singaporean readers should probably still check at 3:01 pm local time.
In the U.S, the new iPhones will be available for pre-order on Apple’s Online Store or the Apple Store app (iTunes link), Carriers’ website and Apple Authorized Resellers like Walmart, Best Buy, Target, RadioShack, Sam’s Club etc.
iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7-inch Retina HD Display with 1334 x 750 resolution and pixel density of 326 pixels-per-inch (ppi), and its bigger sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus, comes with a 5.5-inch Retina HD Display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and pixel density of 401 pixels-per-inch (ppi). In addition to the bigger and better screens, the new iPhones also sports an all-new ultra thin design with rounded edges, and are powered by Apple’s new A8 chip which is 25% faster and 50% more power efficient than the A7 chip used in the iPhone 5s, the next generation M8 motion coprocessor, better camera and longer battery life.
16GB, 64GB and 128GB iPhone 6 will be available for $199, $299 and $399, and 16GB, 64GB and 128GB iPhone 6 Plus will be available for $299, $399 and $499 respectively with a two-year contract.
If you are presently in a contract with your carrier, check out our post for your upgrade eligibility.
