iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Bendgate gathered quite a bit of steam after the devices launched, forcing Apple to give an official statement, and allow reporters to take a peek inside Apple’s stress testing labs.
Apple said that only 9 people had reported that their iPhone 6 Plus being bent, and that this is very rare during normal use. A new video however shows that a lot more people, over 300 of them, have seen their iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus being bent during normal use.
The video is made by the folks behind the site oneofthenine.com, a reference to Apple’s claims of just 9 iPhone 6 Plus units being bent. The site is a crowdsourced effort to gather photos of bent iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units, and has got nearly 350 photos till now. The site has also written a letter to Tim Cook asking how many bent iPhone 6 complaints have they received till now, what Apple calls ‘normal use,’ and has Apple made any amends to its manufacturing process to prevent bending.
However, it is difficult to verify the authencity of the numbers, as someone could post multiple photos of the same device. It is also not clear under what circumstances these iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units were bent. Apple has sold millions of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units, so 350 is still a very small percentage. I’m yet to come across anyone who has bent their iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, so I still think this is a non-issue. Do you know anyone who has bent their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus?[via Oneofthenine]
