Snapchat, with its little ghost app icon, has become a very popular social networking app for the iPhone. Now, with a brand new feature baked into the app, its usefulness may get bolstered quite a bit for fans.
On Tuesday, January 27, Snapchat officially unveiled a brand new feature within the app called Snapchat Discover. With this new feature, Snapchat users will be able to browse content from a wide array of editorial teams from different brands, including the Food Network, CNN, and even Comedy Central.
Snapchat says that Discover is not meant to be another twist on social media, where the stories that get pushed to the top of any digital list are propelled by clicks or views. The content is apparently put together by the people and the narrative, with Snapchat Discover working as the platform to push that narrative out into the world.
“Discover is different because it has been built for creatives. All too often, artists are forced to accommodate new technologies in order to distribute their work. This time we built the technology to serve the art: each edition includes full screen photos and videos, awesome long form layouts, and gorgeous advertising.“
Discover will be refreshed every 24 hours, and new content, which will feature videos, full-screen photos and more, will make its way to the feature every day.
Snapchat Discover works by the user tapping to open an edition, and then browsing to the left to sift through the individual Snaps. Swiping up on one of those Snaps will open up even more content for whatever story has been chosen. You can check out the ad for Snapchat Discover in the video below.
