Users reporting GPS problems after upgrading to iOS 8.4

iPhone-6-Plus-back

iOS users over at Apple Support communities are reporting issues with GPS performance of their device after installing the iOS 8.4 update.

As described by affected users, the GPS on their iPhone or iPad either refuses to lock down their position or its accuracy is very poor. The problem is occurring to all iOS users irrespective of whether the device was updated via OTA or through iTunes.

MDriscoll2:

I updated to iOS 8.4 and now my GPS isn’t getting data quickly, when using Maps or Waze for directions it take so long to figure out where it’s at it’s pretty much useless.  Anyone else having this issue?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4

Phnsm:

I also have this issue, iOS 8.4 on an iPhone 6+. Waze can’t connect to GPS and Google Maps seemed to struggle to find a GPS signal—and this was in downtown LA, not in the boonies where a problem with GPS signal might be expected.

The GPS issue seems to affect all apps that rely on it including Google Maps, Waze, and Nike+ amongst others. Some of the affected users are reporting that they were able to solve the issue by turning Location Services Off and On from under Settings -> Privacy. However, this workaround does not seem to fix the issue for all affected iOS users.

It is unclear if the issue is widespread or only a handful of iPhone and iPad owners are facing it, since navigation is not a feature that most people use on a regular basis in their day-to-day life.
