iOS 9 adoption at 12% in 24 hours, slightly slower than iOS 8 in same period

Mixpanel iOS 9 adoption

Mixpanel is an analytics firm that likes to keep track of iOS adoption, and thanks to their latest report, we have an idea of how Apple’s new mobile operating system is doing 24 hours after release.

According to the data that Mixpanel has access to, iOS 9 has now surpassed a 12 percent adoption rate after being available for 24 hours. The latest results show a 12.60% adoption rate up to this point, which is a worthwhile number for Apple in the new OS’s infancy. However, comparisons have to be drawn.

Looking back at the launch of iOS 8, iOS 9 is actually trailing just a bit. In the same time period, iOS 8 was adopted at just over 16%. It’s a small difference, but one worth noting nonetheless. However, Mixpanel says that iOS 9 and last year’s version of the platform are following similar upgrade paths, so it’s likely that iOS 9 will see plenty of adoption as the days turn into weeks.

The analytics firm also states that server issues could have been leaving some potential upgraders in the dark, which could be one reason for the lower adoption rate:

“iOS 9 has received 12% adoption in the last 24 hours and is being adopted similar to iOS 8 last year. However, one issue for it being substantially slow compared to iOS 7 is that servers are having trouble keeping up right now as people update.”
