New Intel Skylake chips hint at future 15” MacBook Pro specs

Intel has posted its new processor list, which includes some Skylake-based units that could potentially make their way into the next 15” MacBook Pro from Apple.

The processor price list was posted from Intel today and some Skylake-based units were on that list, ones that could be utilized in a MacBook refresh. This could mean that Apple’s upcoming revamped 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro may feature some new Skylake units. According to AnandTech, parts on the list included three quad-core mobile CPUs consisting of the 2.7 GHz Core i7-6870HQ, the 2.6 GHz Core i7-6770H, and the 2.8 GHz Core i7-6970HQ.

Currently, the 15-inch MacBook Pro uses the 2.2 and 2.5 GHz Intel chips and offers the 2.8 GHz as a custom upgrade option. Apple is expected to host a special event in March of this year like we reported, which is very unusual for the company. It is possible that the Cupertino-based company will announce something in regards to its Pro lineup at this event as well.

As of right now, rumored product unveilings at the March event include the iPad Air 3, the 4-inch iPhone 5se, and some new Apple Watch bands. Nothing has been rumored regarding the company’s Mac lineup yet, but it would be a good opportunity for the company to do so, as the Macs are in need of some updates. If the March media event does not include any of the Mac devices, Apple’s WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) being held in June could be another good opportunity for the company to do so.
