LiveRinging Brings Android-Inspired Video Ringtones to Your iPhone [Jailbreak Tweak]

LiveRinging is a new jailbreak tweak by Cydia developer Rene Tejeda that replaces the background of the incoming call screen with a custom video of your choice. This tweak is inspired by Android’s video ringtone feature that starts playing a video as soon as there’s a phone call incoming.

With LiveRinging, you can choose any custom video of your own and assign it as the video ringtone. When you receive an incoming call, the tweak will automatically start playing the chosen video in the background. Video ringtones work with both the normal phone call for incoming and outgoing calls as well as FaceTime call.

The tweak allows you to assign videos to calls received from an unknown person, a specific contact or any contact that is on your phone. You can also assign different videos for each of these categories.

As for the audio ringtone, the tweak will mute the sound of the video and instead use the default ringtone that you chose on your device. This means that when there’s an incoming call, the custom video will be displayed in the background without any sound.

Once LiveRinging is installed, venture into its preferences pane in Settings where you’ll find the following options:

  • Enable or disable the tweak
  • Choose a video that will play for calls from and to unknown callers
  • Choose a video that will play for calls from and to all contacts on your device
  • Adjust the blur intensity of the background video

When choosing a video, you can select one from your Camera Roll or record one on the spot and use it.

To assign a custom video to a specific contact, you’ll have to do it from the Contacts app. Open the app and go to a specific contact for whom you’d like to add a video ringtone. When you choose to edit the contact, you’ll find a new button labelled ‘Add Video’ right below the ‘Add Photo’ button. Using the button, you can add videos individually to each of your contacts that will be displayed only when there is an outgoing or an incoming call from them.

While the concept sounds interesting, I personally don’t find it useful or necessary to have a video playing whenever there’s an incoming or outgoing call. It can also be the reason why stock iOS still doesn’t have this feature especially that it is going to impact your battery life whenever there’s a call.

LiveRinging can be purchased and downloaded from Cydia’s BigBoss repo for $1.99 . Make sure to let us know what you think about it in the comments section below.

Currently, you can only jailbreak iOS 9.1 or lower, check our article for the latest update on iOS 9.3.1 – iOS 9.3 jailbreak.
