Aren’t you bored of looking at still photo albums on Facebook? Now you can add life to your own with Facebook Slideshow, a new tool that makes awesome mini movies from your images and videos.
Facebook Slideshow is similar to the excellent Assistant feature inside Google Photos, and the new Memories feature coming to Apple’s Photos app in iOS 10 later this fall. It actually entered testing back in December, but now it’s available to all on iOS.
Slideshow takes your images and videos from a recent event, then turns them into something special. You can apply themes with different soundtracks and transitions, and edit your clips before uploading them to Facebook for your friends and family to enjoy.
There are 10 themes to choose from initially, including Playful, Night Out, Bollywood, Birthday, Epic, Thankful, Tropical, and Amped.
“Now if you’ve taken more than five photos or videos in the last 24 hours and go to post a status, Facebook will suggest you create a Slideshow,” explains TechCrunch. “It may also give you the option to “Try It” when viewing a friend’s Slideshow.”
Facebook has reportedly seen a decline in personal content sharing in recent years as news articles dominate our timelines. The drop is also being blamed on more casual sharing apps like Snapchat and Periscope.
But Slideshow should encourage users to start posting photos and videos to Facebook again — at least until the novelty wears off!
