At this point, it is all but confirmed that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are not going to feature a 3.5mm audio jack. Instead, Apple plans on replacing it with its Lightning port. It was widely believed that to go along with this change, Apple would bundle wireless or some new kind of EarPods with the upcoming iPhones.
Now, photos of new EarPods that Apple will presumably be bundling with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have leaked on Weibo. The photos show EarPods that look similar to the existing EarPods that Apple bundles with the iPhones, except obviously it comes with a Lightning connector at one end.
The connector is housed inside a stiff plastic body that should make it more reliable than existing Lightning cables from Apple that fray easily with use and are widely criticised for their poor build quality. It is also likely that they house some extra circuitry like a DAC to deliver better audio quality. However, they do seem to make the connector a bit fragile in my opinion.
It still remains unclear how Apple expects iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users to charge their handset with the Lightning connector plugged in. This is a fairly common phenomenon that people do in their everyday life, especially while travelling.
Since this leak comes from a relatively unknown Chinese source, they should be taken with a pinch of salt until they are verified by some credible sources.[Via 9to5Mac]
