During Apple’s September event, a huge surprise landed on stage thanks to Nintendo.
During today’s keynote, Apple opened things up with a huge announcement: Nintendo’s major character, Mario, is coming to the iOS App Store in a brand new game called Super Mario Run. It’s an endless runner title, which allows players to change jump height, collect coins, and reach the end of the level before time runs out.
The game can be played with one hand, and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto showed this off.
There’s a new game mode, battle mode, called Toad Rally. Players can compete against friends and players around the world, with victory given to those who collect the most points, whether that’s through collecting coins or doing “daring moves.” Players will have to impress Toads to win, too.
Players will expand and customize their Mushroom Kingdom.
Super Mario Run will launch with a set price, it won’t be a free-to-play game, and it will launch this holiday season. Pricing and availability will be confirmed at a later date. There will also be Nintendo/Mario stickers in iMessage as well.
