Apple rolled out its iOS 10.1 update on Monday, and while iPhone 7 Plus owners will be most excited about it — thanks to the new Portrait Mode — there are plenty of improvements under the hood we can all appreciate. But will they make your iPhone any faster? Find out here.
iAppleBytes put Apple’s latest release through its paces against iOS 10.0.2 on iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6s. They also compared iOS 10.1 with iOS 9.3.5 on iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s. And there’s good news!
While iOS 10.1 won’t make your iPhone noticeably faster, it’s no slower than iOS 10.0.1, either. That means you can enjoy all of the improvements Apple has made without having to worry that your device will become bogged down and less responsive.
Boot up times, app loading times, Geekbench tests and more deliver almost identical results across both versions of iOS 10, giving you no reason to avoid this update.
In comparison with iOS 9.3.5, the story is slightly different. iOS 10.1 is slightly slower to boot up on iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s, and Geekbench seems to run faster on the earlier software. However, the difference shouldn’t be enough to put you off this upgrade.
