HTC Announces U Ultra Flagship With 5.7-Inch QHD Display, Second Screen

Last year, HTC unveiled the HTC 10, the company’s flagship for 2016 that dropped the gimmicks and simply focused on being a flagship smartphone with noteworthy features and specs.

This year, HTC has decided to head into 2017 with a slightly different approach. The manufacturer today officially announced the U Ultra, which features not only one giant display, but also a smaller second screen for good measure. The new handset also boasts a “Liquid Surface” design, which features a glass back and front. It comes in blue, white, pink, and black.

As far as specs are concerned, the U Ultra features a 5.7-inch display, which has a resolution of 2560×1440. Right above that is a secondary screen, which measures in at two inches, and has a resolution of 160×1040. With it, owners will be able to see event notifications, quickly access their favorite contacts, and get quick shortcuts to apps.

Under the hood, the U Ultra features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of built-in storage. It supports a microSD card slot for expandable storage, a 3000mAh battery, and Android 7.0 Nougat under HTC’s proprietary Sense UI. HTC is also including Sense Companion, an AI helper that will notify owners if they need to wear a coat with impending snow, or grab an umbrella if it’s going to rain.

The camera on the back is a 12-megapixel (UltraPixel 2) camera, with phase detection autofocus, two-tone LED flash, and 4K video recording. There is a 16-megapixel camera on the front, which can record 1080p HD video.

Here’s the specs rundown:

  • 2.15 GHz Snapdragon 821 CPU
  • 5.7-inch Quad HD display (2560×1440)
  • 2.05-inch secondary display (160×1040)
