Snap’s ambitious project, known as Spectacles, can now be bought directly via the company’s online store in the U.S. for $129.99.
Back in November last year, Snap started selling Spectacles via its sole pop-up store in New York and through surprise Snapbot location across the U.S. The company has announced that it will resume selling the Spectacles through these outlets soon, after a small “nap”. So for now, getting them online is your only recourse. The glasses are available in Black, Red, and Teal colors and delivery time is said to be 2-4 weeks.
While Snap supplies a charging case and cable with the Spectacles, you can buy additional units via Spectacles.com. Previously, these accessories were only available from Amazon.com. But that changes now with Spectacles.com being the only place to get them.
Snap initially planned this as an experimental project, and given the success it has seen since then, this move makes complete sense. It will be interesting to see if the company will start selling Spectacles in other parts of the world, although I feel we’re still some distance away from that happening.
Speaking about the extended release of Spectacles, Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel said, “We’re going to take a slow approach to rolling them out. It’s about us figuring out if it fits into people’s lives and seeing how they like it. Response has been positive since November’s launch so we’re now happy to be able to make Spectacles more readily available — especially for those in the US who have not been able to make it to a Snapbot.”[Via Spectacles, TechCrunch]
