Snapchat Brings 3D World Lenses to the Rear Camera for More AR Fun

In November of last year, Snap introduced “World Lenses” into the Snapchat app, based on the Lenses feature the company introduced more than a year ago.

At the time, there wasn’t any mention of the feature rolling out to support the rear camera, but the expectation was high that the company would add it at some point. For the folks waiting for that day, Snap has made it official. Snapchat now supports 3D World Lenses with the rear camera, meaning you can bring even more AR fun into your world.

“We launched Lenses over a year ago as a whole new way to express ourselves on Snapchat. Since then, we’ve become puppies, puked rainbows, face-swapped with our best friends — and begun to explore how Lenses can change the world around us.”

The new 3D effects have depth and shadow effects, making them impressive enough to watch in action. Snapchat has had its domain in the front-facing camera market, with Instagram working diligently to handle the rear camera. But with the new World Lenses, Snapchat looks to be aiming for a chunk of that market, too.
