Being able to see the rating of an Uber driver has always been easy, but for drivers looking to pick up repeat customers, the same hasn’t been true.
However, that’s changing soon. Uber has announced that it will start opening up rider ratings, so that Uber drivers can see the rating of passengers before they pick them up. Up to this point, passenger ratings were only visible by Uber employees proper, and if a driver wanted to see it they had to request that information through a written proposal.
“To give riders more visibility into how drivers are rating them, we’re making rider ratings much more accessible in the app. Now, a rider’s rating will be displayed right under their name in the app’s menu. We hope this update will remind riders that mutual respect is an important part of our Community Guidelines.”
The goal here is better rider behavior, with the majority of things like “eating in the car, slamming the door, or trying to pile in more people than seat belts” being reduced. At the same time, Uber is also changing the way that driver ratings work for pool pickups.
Recently, Uber was pinged by Apple because it was caught secretly “tagging iPhones.” Apple even threatened to remove the app entirely from the iOS App Store. While this change has nothing to do with that, a little bit more transparency on the company’s part is probably good news.[via Uber]
