Amazon Prime Video Finally Coming to Apple TV

Prime Video Apple TV

After much speculation, Apple has officially announced Amazon Prime Video for tvOS. The company has mentioned that the service will be officially available “later this year”. Apple will officially bring this app to fourth-gen Apple TVs running tvOS 11.

Not long after the announcement, the official Amazon Video Twitter page posted the good news as well. The company also announced that it will work with the TV app on Apple TVs, suggesting deeper integration with tvOS.

This is pretty big news given how long the two parties have waited to make this happen. Amazon infamously stopped selling Apple TVs, citing the lack of any proper Prime Video apps on the platform. One can only hope that the arrival of Prime Video on tvOS will pave the way for Amazon to start selling Apple TVs again.

Thanks to this development, Apple TV users will be able to stream a bunch of original Amazon content like American Gods, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, and much more. Surprisingly, this was pretty much the only tvOS related announcement made by Apple. Since the details on Prime Video’s availability will be shared later, we expect Apple to divulge more information on tvOS at about the same time.
