Dubious New iPhone 8 Rumor Claims Touch ID Integrated into Power Button, Wireless Charger Bundled with Phone

A dubious new leak surrounding the iPhone 8 claims the handset will only be called the ‘iPhone Plus.’ Additionally, it hints at Apple launching a new “O7” color variant of the device similar to that of the iPhone 2G.

There were a few rumors of Apple launching the iPhone 8 wth a mirror-like finish over the weekend which is what the ‘O7’ colour is likely going to be. What makes the leak dubious is that it claims the Touch ID sensor will be integrated into the power button and the wireless charger will be included in the retail box of the device.

So far, all rumors and leaks have been split on the Touch ID scanner being located at the rear of the device, at the front embedded into the display, or completely missing altogether from the device. Similarly, rumors point to the wireless charger not being included in the retail box of the iPhone 8. In fact, John Gruber had revealed over the weekend that the inductive charger for the iPhone 8 would be sold separately and its release might be delayed until iOS 11.1 drops later this year.

Add in the source of this leak — an unknown Chinese leaker — it becomes difficult to believe that these leaks will turn out to be true. While the probability of Apple launching a new mirror-like color for the iPhone 8 seems pretty high, chances of the wireless charger being bundled with the device are pretty much nil. And if Apple does end up bundling the wireless charger in the iPhone 8 retail box, expect it to be priced at over $1,200.

Due to production and technological issues, it is unclear if Apple will end up shipping the iPhone 8 with a fingerprint scanner embedded into the display at the front or not. Other specs of the handset include a 5.8-inch OLED display with a bezel-less design, an all-glass design with a metallic chassis, and a vertical dual-camera setup at the rear.
