The Apple Watch Series 3, with built-in LTE or without, has been available for a bit of time now. And now Apple has detailed the battery life for its newest wearable.
According to the company, the Apple Watch Series 3 has “all-day battery life,” which equals 18 hours. But Apple actually breaks down what that looks like, detailing individual tasks that they ran on the Apple Watch throughout the day to work out how long the battery would last. That includes receiving 90 notifications, checking the time 90 times, and 45 minutes of app usage on the wearable. It also includes 30 minutes of streaming music over Bluetooth, over the course of the 18 hour stretch.
“Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) usage includes connection to iPhone via Bluetooth during the entire 18-hour test. Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) usage includes a total of 4 hours of LTE connection and 14 hours of connection to iPhone via Bluetooth over the course of 18 hours. Apple Watch Series 3 models also provide up to 18 hours of battery life on a Wi-Fi connection. Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) and Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular), each paired with an iPhone; all devices tested with prerelease software.”
Apple’s detailed page does a solid job of breaking down individual events and tasks, and also confirms the realistic expectation that every Apple Watch Series 3 owner is going to use their wearable just a little bit differently than every other owner — especially Apple. The company says that the device can last three hours while connected to an iPhone, and (as previously confirmed) one hour while using LTE only.
Other key points: Up to 7 hours of battery life streaming music over LTE. 10 hours of battery life while working out indoors, and up to 5 hours of battery life while working out outdoors using GPS. You’ll also get 8 hours of battery life if you charge the device for 1 and a half hours, or 100% battery life after about two hours of charging.
