There are a lot of pieces of amazing technology that get released every year, from coffee mugs that can warm your coffee, and elevators that aren’t restricted to just moving up or down.

Those are just a couple of the devices that have been named to TIME‘s “25 Best Inventions of 2017” list. The list includes plenty of high-concept devices and creations, and one of them includes the iPhone X — Apple’s newest flagship smartphone. As one might expect, the publication’s quick blurb about the phone includes the fact it changed so much in comparison to past iPhone models.

“To Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, the iPhone X is quite literally a dream come true. “I look at the design as something we really wanted to do since day one,”he says. It’s easy to see why: the X is arguably the world’s most sophisticated smartphone, with a screen that stretches from edge to edge, a processor optimized for augmented reality and a camera smart enough to allow users to unlock the phone with their face.”

The publication’s listing also includes a link to a separate interview that TIME held with Apple’s lead designer, Jony Ive. You can check out that interview through this link.

According to Ive, the company has a “clear vision” for the next generation of iPhones –which the iPhone X is meant to herald– but that the newest flagship smartphone is “in some sense a completion of a chapter.” Whatever Apple has planned for the future, the iPhone X is a powerful entry point to that vision.
