When Apple unveiled the iPhone 8 and iPhone X back in September last year, it also unveiled AirPower — a Qi-based wireless charger with some enhancements from Apple thrown in. AirPower sets itself apart from other wireless chargers in the market with the fact that it could be used to wirelessly charge the iPhone, Apple Watch, and the AirPods simultaneously at the same time.
Back then, Apple had announced that AirPower would launch early next year. With February now almost coming to an end, there’s still no word from Apple as to when the AirPower would go on sale. However, a report from Macotakara claims that Apple is on track to start selling the AirPower from March. The report does not provide a concrete release date except for mentioning the second half of March as the possible launch timeframe for the AirPower.
There’s no word on the pricing of the AirPower but a previous leak pointed to the wireless charging being priced at $199.
Apple will likely also release the wireless charging case for the AirPods alongside the AirPower, though the report does not mention anything about it. As per previous leaks, Apple will only be selling the AirPods charging case through its own retail stores.
Apple has usually released some new hardware in March every year, so it does make sense for the company to release AirPower and the wireless charging AirPods case around the same time this year. While there are rumors of Apple holding a media event in March, that does seem unlikely. Apple could possibly also launch some refreshed iPad models along with AirPower in March.
