Apple has been preparing for the next update to its fourth- and fifth-generation Apple TVs for weeks, and now it’s finally ready for the public.
Today, Apple officially released tvOS 11.3 out into the wild. It’s a minor update, all things considered, and doesn’t add a variety of front-facing new features for the Apple TV owner. However, it does add a few new elements, including improvements to “Match Content”, and also includes automatic frame rate switching for the 4th-Gen Apple TV. Meanwhile, for the fourth- and fifth-generation Apple TV units, the new software includes automatic mode switching for AirPlay video sessions.
tvOS 11.3 also adds support for AirPlay 2.
To update, Apple TV owners simply need to head into Settings –> Software Update and then follow the onscreen instructions. Unless you already have Automatic Updates turned on, in which case the new software will automatically download and install without any further input from the Apple TV owner.
The new software is available to download and install right now.
