After being the number one selling smartphone across the globe since its launch in November, the iPhone X was dethroned by the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus in April 2018.

Despite its $999 price tag, the iPhone X was the world’s highest selling smartphone ahead of offerings from Samsung and Xiaomi across the world for 5 consecutive months. In April, however, the handset’s sales declined due to seasonality which allowed the Galaxy S9 Plus and Galaxy S9 to surpass it. The Galaxy S9 Plus was the highest selling smartphone in the world thanks to an increase in demand in the Asia Pacific and North America region. The Galaxy S9 came in second which is surprising since for Apple, the smaller variants have done better than their Plus sibling.

This change, however, shows a change in consumer taste and preference as they were willing to spend extra on the Galaxy S9 for its bigger display, better battery life, and dual-camera setup. The iPhone X came in third followed by the iPhone 8. Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A which is priced at around $99 and available in China, India, and a few other regions came in sixth. The last time around, it was the best selling Android smartphone in the world. However, the company’s Redmi 5 Plus/Redmi Note 5 series joined the top 10 smartphone list at eighth position signifying the increasing popularity of its Redmi series.

Samsung also managed to push the sales of the Galaxy S8 thanks to attractive discounts and EMI offers which allowed it to become the tenth highest selling smartphone in the world in April 2018.

Like always though, Apple continued to dominate the top 5 smartphones list. The iPhone X at no. 3 was followed by the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 at fourth and fifth position respectively. The iPhone 6, which was launched back in 2014, also made it to the top ten list at seventh position, with the iPhone 7 coming in at ninth. Overall. Apple had five devices out of the top 10 smartphones sold across the globe in March 2018, with even its 2 to 3 years old devices making the list. This goes on to show just how well Apple devices age when compared to its competition and how they are adored by customers all over the world.
