It has been more than a month since Instagram announced a whole host of new features for the social platform, and now they are finally seeing the light of day.
On Tuesday, Instagram officially confirmed it is now rolling out a series of new features. That starts with video calls, which supports one-on-one or group calls up to four people. To initiate a video call, though, you will already have to be in a Direct conversation with someone, or a group. And if you have already blocked or muted another Instagram contact, they will not be able to start a video call with you.
The other new feature is a brand new, redesigned Explore page. Instagram wants the new page to help users find content they are interested in more quickly. The new page will offer up icons at the top of the page, which will work as a sort of carousel. Users will be able to turn it and select different categories that they want to see, which can include things like animals, architecture, photography, and other topics.
Finally, custom AR filters for Stories. These work to customize Stories with AR-based camera effects. While Instagram offers plenty of options on their own, the big news here is that users will be able to use options from third-party sources like the NBA, Ariana Grande, BuzzFeed, and others:
“Lastly, you’ll now see the first batch of new camera effects designed by Ariana Grande, Buzzfeed, Liza Koshy, Baby Ariel and NBA in the Instagram camera. Whether you want to make your friends laugh or add some glam to your selfies, you now have more ways to express yourself and feel closer to your favorite accounts.”
The new features are beginning to roll out today.
Considering how popular Instagram is, adding these features will surely be a big addition. With video calls joining the mix, do you plan on using this feature at all?[via Instagram]
