With the second developer beta being seeded of iOS 12.2 today, some new details have been uncovered.
It has been confirmed that in iOS 12.2, the next major software update for Apple’s mobile operating system, the company will be introducing four new Animoji to the mix. As pictured today by MacRumors, which you can see above, there is a boar, shark, giraffe, and owl that can be used to take advantage of the TrueDepth camera system in the iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR. That also includes support for the new iPad Pro as well.
As is par for the course with Animoji, the feature will use the TrueDepth Camera system to track your facial movements, including your tongue, and show that as the animated character’s face moving. The hardware can track more than 50 movements in the facial region.
There are 24 Animoji now, including these four new additions. The big names up to this point include the dragon, panda, unicorn, and monkey. There are several other options, including the lion, rooster, ghost, alien, fox, cat, dog, t-rex, koala, skull, bear, and panda.
These four new options are pretty great, especially in their overall design. The owl is pretty adorable! The giraffe is pretty awesome, too. Though, I think I might have to start using the shark Animoji quite a bit to send some messages to a friend who is scared to death of sharks. Hopefully it doesn’t scar him for life.
