Following the refresh of the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the Retina MacBook Air, Apple has now silently pulled the 12-inch MacBook and the old non-Retina MacBook Air from its store. This means these MacBooks are no longer on sale officially from Apple.
What this also means is that Apple no longer sells a MacBook with USB-A ports. The company’s entire MacBook lineup now features USB-C ports and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity.
The old non-Retina MacBook Air was relatively popular among consumers despite its age due to its impressive performance, slim design, and low price tag. With the MacBook Air discontinued, Apple’s cheapest MacBook is now the 13-inch Retina MacBook Air which starts from $1,099.
While the 13-inch Retina MacBook Air comes with plenty of new features, it does not pack the same amount of grunt as the old MacBook Air. This was also a reason why many users preferred it over the newer variant.
As for the 12-inch Retina MacBook, it never really made sense in Apple’s lineup after the company unveiled the 13-inch MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. It was just too expensive and did not offer enough grunt for anything other than some basic computing.
Are you disappointed that Apple has stopped selling the old MacBook Air and the 12-inch Retina MacBook?
