Apple Arcade Hands-On Video Gives Us a Sneak Peek of What to Expect

Apple Arcade

We recently reported that Apple is likely to price Apple Arcade gaming service at $4.99. Apple Arcade will allow subscribers to access a library of more than 100 games by paying the monthly subscription fees. Apple Arcade is expected to support family sharing and the games can be played on iOS, macOS and Apple TV.

9to5Mac has taken the Apple Arcade preview for a spin and the hands-on video gives us a sneak peek. He plays six gaming titles including Way of Turtle, Down in Bermuda, Hot Lava, Kings of Castle, Sneaky Sasquatch and Frogger in Toy Town. 9to5 Mac accessed Apple Arcade via a special internal early program that is meant for Apple employees. Apparently, Apple employees are paying a symbolic 49-cents per month after the free trial. Meanwhile, the early access program will extend until iOS 13 launches this fall.

As you can see in the video, one needs to click on the ‘Try it Free’ button in order to subscribe to the program. You need to enter Apple ID credentials and once subscribed the ‘Try it Free’ button will change to ‘Get’ button. Now you can download and try out all the games. Some of the games like Hot Lava is sized at 4.7GB. All the games get their own page on App Store alongside videos of the gameplay.

The games are early access version and it is quite possible that the final version will change once launched. That being said, the video gives us an early look at how Apple Arcade will function and the gaming titles offered. Furthermore, the author noted that some gaming titles struggle to run on base model MacBook Pro, however, this might be due to the fact that the games are still early access and might be optimized further.
