16-inch MacBook Pro’s 96W USB-C Power Adapter Leaks

Apple 2018 MacBook Pro lineup

A photo of the alleged 96W USB-C charger that Apple will ship with the 16-inch MacBook Pro has leaked online. Apple currently ships an 87W USB-C charger with its 15-inch MacBook Pro. The smaller 13-inch MacBook Pro comes with a 60W USB-C charger.

The slightly more powerful 96W USB-C charger would be ideal for the 16-inch MacBook Pro which will come with more powerful and power-hungry internals. As per the photo, the 96W USB-C charger carries the A2166 model number.

The upcoming Pro Display XDR also offers 96W power passthrough which further adds credence to this leaked image showing the 16-inch MacBook Pro’s charger.

The leaked photo itself does not reveal much about the 16-inch MacBook Pro itself, but at least it does confirm that Apple is indeed working on it and that its launch is imminent.

Apple will likely release the 16-inch MacBook Pro at a media event in October. The laptop will feature a chassis that’s no bigger than the 15-inch MacBook Pro. Apple will accommodate a bigger display in the device by slimming down the bezels surrounding it.

The new MacBook Pro will also feature faster internals, more RAM, a more powerful AMD GPU, and more. It will also mark the return for Apple to scissor-type keyboard mechanism and ditch the unreliable Butterfly keyboard mechanism.

It will be interesting to see what specs and how much power the 16-inch MacBook Pro will pack. It also remains to be seen what other design changes Apple will make with this new 16-inch MacBook Pro. Are you looking forward to its release? Or will you wait for Apple to update its 13-inch MacBook Pro with a bigger 14-inch display?
