Ahead of the release of Apple TV+ next week, Apple has released a dedicated Apple TV app for the Fire TV devices. The app offers a similar experience as the Roku app which was released last week.
On supported Fire TV devices, the Apple TV app will support streaming content in 4K HDR. At first launch, the app will prompt users to sign in with their Apple account. Apart from accessing Apple TV+ content and Apple TV Channel subscriptions, the app also provides users with access to the content they purchased from the iTunes Store including movies, TV shows, and more.
You will not be able to sign up or pay for Apple TV+ from the Fire TV app though. For that, you will have to use your Mac, iPhone, Apple TV, or iPad.
Apple TV+ will go live on November 1st with a monthly subscription fee of $4.99/month. As a promotional offer, Apple is offering a free subscription of Apple TV+ to new owners of iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple TV purchased on or after September 10. A single Apple TV+ subscription also supports family sharing meaning up to six members of a family would be able to use it.
By launching the Apple TV+ app on Fire TV devices, Apple is ensuring its streaming service is available on all major platforms. The company is yet to release an Android app for its streaming service though and it remains to be seen if it will do so.
