Ever since the checkm8 exploit was released, the jailbreaking community is waiting with bated breath of a jailbreak for iPhone X and older devices running iOS 13. Luca Todesco has teased a jailbreak — checkra1n — based on checkm8 but so far he has only posted a few teasers of the jailbreaking tool. It looks like the wait could soon come to an end for the jailbreaking community as checkra1n could possibly be released on November 7th or 8th.
As per a tweet by one of the organizers of POC, one of Luca Todesco’s plan is to release a permanent jailbreak at POC 2019.
Since this tweet does not come directly from Luca, we should take it with a pinch of salt. However, given the platform and venue of POC, it would make sense if the developer manages to release a permanent jailbreak for iPhone X and lower devices at the event. It would help increase the popularity of such events and show that despite the best efforts of Apple’s, the jailbreaking community is still very much alive and kicking.
Since the checkra1n jailbreak tool will be based on the checkm8 exploit, it will only work with iPhone X and lower devices. The good thing is that since the jailbreak is based on a bootrom exploit, it will work on all compatible devices irrespective of their iOS version. The tool might need to be updated for every new iOS release but due to the bootrom exploit, iPhone X and lower devices can now be essentially jailbroken for life. This should really help boost development and activity in the jailbreaking community which has been missing in recent years.
Are you looking forward to an iOS 13 jailbreak? If so, why?
