As a part of iOS 14, Apple is expanding its Find My app to support third-party products. This means customers will be able to use the Find My app to find third-party products and accessories. Apple is debuting a new Find My Network accessory program for this.
For now, Apple is making a draft specification available for accessory makers who intend to take advantage of this program.
Find My will add support for finding third-party products and accessories with the new Find My network accessory program. This will allow customers to use the Find My app to locate other important items in their lives, in addition to their Apple devices. User privacy remains central to the Find My network with end-to-end encryption built in. A draft specification is available for accessory makers and product manufacturers starting today.
It is likely that Apple has launched this new program due to Tile’s anti-competitive complaint against the company. The new program should act as a huge relief for the latter as it has previously complained about how Apple is limiting its products with the policies. The move should also lead to a number of other companies working on Tile-like tracking tags as well.
