The iPhone 5C, at least that’s what rumors suggest it’ll be called, will be Apple’s “cheap” iPhone. I put an emphasis on cheap because what’s affordable to you might not be affordable to someone else. In a world where you can get a highly capable Android smartphone from Huawei for $200, the thought of a “budget” $400 or $500 iPhone sounds ridiculous.
iPhone 5c: Everything you need to know!
The low-cost iPhone, potentially dubbed the “iPhone 5C,” is now rumored to sport an 8-megapixel camera akin to that of the iPhone 5. The report comes from Chinese site IT168 and is coupled with a photo of the sensor embedded above.
According to Chinese website, iFeng.com (via MacRumors), Apple’s CEO Tim Cook visited China recently.
The report speculates that Cook may have visited the country to discuss the decline in year-on-year revenue in the last quarter. Apple had reported a surprise drop of 14% in revenue in China.
The “budget” iPhone. The “cheap” iPhone. The “iPhone 5C”. Whatever you want to call it, we all know that Apple is going to launch an affordable version of their highly popular mobile phone this year. What we don’t know is when, what the specs are, and how much it’s going to cost. Thanks to a listing on Amazon, however, we might have a better idea as to when the 5C will actually be released.
China Labor Watch, a New York based non-profit, recently published a first-hand report about working conditions at Pegatron, who is one of Apple’s suppliers. The report highlights safety and environmental violations, along with instances of worker pay being withheld, but it also confirms Apple’s cheaper plastic iPhone.
Apple has been widely rumored to launch a low-cost or budget iPhone with a plastic rear shell alongside iPhone 5S.
We’ve already seen several photos and videos of rear shell of the plastic iPhone, and what appeared to be a fully-assembled plastic iPhone.
